May 3rd - C5 Comes Home for the 3rd Time

C5 with notched right wing
This is a picture of C5 (taken in 2002) showing the pronounced notch (from a missing feather) in his right wing.  This feature makes it very easy to spot him when he is overhead.
C5 paying a visit to C22 and mate

The Cormorant Island nest platform late Saturday afternoon, May 3, 2003.  C5 is "announcing" his presence to C22 and mate, and "discussing" whose nest this really is.  C5 and his mate from last year put most of the sticks on this platform.  He may be very reluctant to give it over to another pair of ospreys, regardless of the fact they were here 2 weeks before him, and are sitting on eggs.
C22 on eggs while mate guards
C09 spending some time on the eggs while his mate takes a stretch break. Shortly after this picture was taken, C5 made an apperance. C09 went after him, chasing him the full length of Wildwing Lake. C5 flew away, going over to the nest on Cormorant Island to investigate C22 and his mate.
C22 and mate after chasing C5 away
After chasing C5 away, C09 returned to the nest to resume sitting on the eggs. During the chase, C09's mate was watching the whole episode from her perch.
