April 13th - C22 and mate are back

C22 brings stick to cell tower nestWe think this male is C22. He is refurbishing the nest atop the cell tower adjacent to Acme Building Materials on old US23 South of Brighton.

He's coming in for a landing with a new stick held in this left talon in this photo.

C22's mate flies off nestIn the process of getting the new stick placed where he wants it, C22's mate gets annoyed and flys off. She came back later when the stick placing task was finished.

After placing the new stick, C22 takes flight. A short time later he returned to the cell tower. With feet down for a landing, we could see his bands well enought to know it was a hacked osprey.

The various antennae and uprights of the cell tower make great perches. Often, the male is on one of these structures, watching over the nest, his mate, and keeping a sharp eye on the sky for intruders.
