This
is an April 24th photo of the female and male osprey from the nest at
Hilton Rd. and old US-23. They were both on and off the nest while
being photographed, indicating that no eggs had yet been layed.
The
female of this pair has the most distinctive "necklace" they we've ever
seen on a osprey. Quite remarkable with its size and distinctive
pattern. The male has a US Fish and Wildlife band on his right leg,
indicating that he was banded by someone as a chick.

Here
is C09 and mate (sitting low in the nest, incubating) on their new (old)
nest. The platform is adjacent to the hacking facility at Kensington
Metropark on Wildwing Lake and is the nest location where the first
chick (Bucko) was born as a result of the hacking project.

A
photo of C09 bringing in a fish for his incubating mate. He is really
good at keeping the nest supplied with fresh fish and hanging around
close by to fend off intruders.
In 2002, one of those intruders was a Bald Eagle, captured on film in the movie, "An Osprey Homecoming".

In
a like manner, this is a photo of the Dawson 2 pair with the male
bringing in a fish for the incubating female. She was down low on the
nest just before her mate and this fish arrived.
This pair have consistently produced 3 chicks each year for the past 5 years. We are hoping they can do it again!
