This
is the new nest, # 17 for this season, reported by Ken Currie. It is
located on a power line, as can be seen, adjacent to the old Ford
manufacturing plant at the end of East Elm Ave, North of Monroe, MI.
These lines feed power to the plant, so they are still active.

Another view of the nest from the rooftop of the plant. At the time this photo was taken, the eggs were beginning to hatch.

We
got a brief glance at one of the chicks in the nest (red arrow) while
we were there. Ken Currie believes there are at least two chicks and
maybe three. Another trip is planned later on when the chicks are
larger to confirm their numbers.

Before
leaving the Monroe area, we went over to Sterling State Park to view
the osprey nest on the main impoundment. This platform was last used in
2006 by male osprey V87 and his mate.
As
can be seen, the platform itself is severely tilted and in need of
significant repair. Hopefully, the nest will remain in place until the
chicks fledge.
We have concluded that this was a late nest and that the female is still incubating. We saw no evidence of chicks, nor the male.
