On May 22, Julie Oakes, from the Michigan DNR and
Barb Jensen, from OWSEM, will be presenters at the
Clinton River Water Festival to be held on the campus of Oakland
University. The objective of the Festival is to educate
fifth graders about the importance of water, its many uses,
pollution prevention and the hydrologic cycle. Each outdoor
or indoor presentation will include interactive, hands on
learning experiences and all will be related to water, its uses
and its critical importance to us and the environment.
Obviously,
the future of the Osprey is dependent upon the health of our
water systems. In each 25 minute session Julie and Barb
will inform the students about past impacts man has had on this
magnificent raptor's survival and what the future holds for these
birds. They plan to use video provided by the Environmental
Defense Fund and a fun activity that stresses the seriousness of
bio accumulation of toxins as well as other forms of pollution
that present a hazard to the survival of this species.
