Sept 17th & 18th - Hawkfest 2005
Hawkfest took place at Lake Erie Metropark during the peak of the autumn raptor migration. OWSEM was there with our booth containing kids crafts, displays, information, and osprey merchandise. We also provided a presentation highlighting Southeast Michigan ospreys and the ongoing activities to successfully restore this species in the southern part of our state.
In addition to our booth, we took along our "raptor banner" which shows in full size, an outline of each raptor species.

Details on each raptor type is included on this display. It was popular with the kids! Adults too......

A large number of kids made an osprey mask, put on the full size osprey wing set, and posed for the camera. Some of the many photos taken are shown below.
On Sunday morning, OWSEM member Karen Verhey provided a slide presentation covering the background of the Osprey Reintroduction Program, 2005 nesting activities and the status of the Stony Creek Hacking efforts.

OWSEM member Barb Jensen did this presentation the day before. We had good attendance each day.

We are in the process of making this presentation available for schools and groups.

Next to the OWSEM booth was that of EarthLuv Media, and award winning film maker Christi Vedejs. Christi provided a show each day of her film, "An Osprey Homecoming", which has also appeared on PBS during their pledge drives.

This film was running continuously in the EarthLuv booth after each mornings showing in the LEMP Marshland Museum. Christi was there to greet visitors and answer questions.
