The Michigan DNR has set up links on their website for reporting osprey sightings.  These links are repeated on this page to help the DNR acquire sighting data, which is consistent with OWSEM's goals.  If you see an osprey, take the time to report it, especially if it is banded. Banded birds in the Southeast Michigan area are probably returning adults that were raised during the Kensington Metropark and Maple River "hacking" activities from 1998 through 2002.

What To Look For:  Hacked birds should be wearing two bands.  The right leg band is silver colored, and is their US Fish & Wildlife tag.  Numbers on these bands are very difficult to read.  A "hacking" ID band is on their left leg.  For 1998, these bands were black with painted on white numbers, which probably have worn off.  All birds from 1999 through 2002 are wearing green bands with alpha-numeric codes beginning with  a "C", such as C09.
